About Dance Makers

Dance Makers is well established ballroom instruction studio where you can learn to dance, but also find community. We are passionate about helping you reach your dancing goals in a safe, fun, and comfortable environment. Our instructors and trained continuously, so you get the most current and correct information. We can teach anyone how to dance!

Since opening in 1988, Dance Makers enjoyed 25 years in their Oklahoma City location. In February 2013, Dance Makers relocated to a larger state of the art studio in Edmond. With 8,000 sq. ft. of beautiful decor and three floating hardwood dance floors, it enables Dance Makers to offer a high-quality and fun- filled experience for both the social and competitive dancer.

Elizabeth Wood

Elizabeth began studying ballet and modern dance at the age of 3, and became a professional ballroom instructor in 2005. She was recently promoted to Managing Partner of Dance Makers in Edmond, OK along with her husband, David. Elizabeth developed a passion for ballroom while attending the University of Oklahoma, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. She currently teaches a variety of styles, including Rhythm, Latin, Club, Standard, and Smooth, which is her favorite. Elizabeth has earned several Top Teacher awards at various competitions across the country competing in both the Pro/Am and Professional divisions.

David Wood

David first fell in love with ballroom dancing while attending the University of Oklahoma. He starting teaching at Dance Makers in 2005 and quickly grew a passion for competitions and shows as well. He an his wife Elizabeth are former smooth competitors and have recently become Managing Partners together at Dance Makers.

David Elliot New
David Elliott

David has been a ballroom dance instructor since May 2014. He trained in ballet, modern, and ballroom dance at the University of Oklahoma where obtained a bachelor’s of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance with a secondary emphasis in Dance. He has trained with and taken lessons from former US and world champion ballroom dancers.

Kinsey Whisenhunt

Kinsey has been dancing all her life and performed with the University of Oklahoma’s dance department’s company. She has been a ballroom dance instructor since 2017 at Dance Makers, and teaches a variety of private lessons, wedding choreography, and group classes. Kinsey frequents competitions and performances both local and around the country with her dedicated students as well as her professional partner and husband, Blake Whisenhunt.

Blake Whisenhunt

Blake has been an Instructor and Dance Professional with Dance Makers since 2017. He grew up performing in musical theater for 10 years before attending the University of Oklahoma where he fell in love with ballroom dancing. Blake has competed at numerous Pro/Am competitions around the country and won several Top Teacher awards.
